Editorial Design//2021-2022

The Place Based Publication is an archive and celebration of the work of the students, teachers, and collaborators of the undergraduate course, Practicing Neighbourly Responsibility. The practitioners of this course seeked to learn through community and their neighbours. They asked students to engage, critique and trouble the hierarchical structures in place and take up the work of place based, neighbourly responsibility.

This publication was designed in collaboration with Jean Chisholm, one of the teachers of the course. When designing the publication, we were mindful of the fact that all the work was done through writing and all this work was done online. We picked typefaces that were reminiscent of early digital aesthetics but we also recognized that writing is a human act so we created marks and elements that were made by hand.
